Yes. A charger with too high a voltage can damage the battery, and a plug that almost fits makes poor contact. Only use a charger with the same voltage and the same plug as your old one. The voltage is on the label of your battery and of your charger.

Cortina Ecomo 36V smart charger, 5-pin
A smart 36V charger with a 5-pin plug, made for the battery of the Cortina Ecomo. The same plug and voltage are used on a wide range of Dutch e-bikes, including the Cortina E-U4, the Koga E-xtension and the Sparta ION.
You buy this charger new. Before ordering, count the pins on the charging socket of your battery and compare it with the plug shown in the photo, because a 4-pin or 3-pin battery from the same brands will not accept it.
