What is a Bosch Powerpack?

The Bosch Powerpack is a battery designed specifically for e-bikes, and it is known for being reliable and durable. Whether you have a Powerpack 400 or a 500, the battery delivers a steady supply of energy, so your e-bike gives you strong assistance on your rides.

Battery cell replacement for your Powerpack: improve it and extend its life

If your Powerpack no longer performs as it did or has lost capacity, a cell replacement is the first fix to look at. It costs considerably less than buying a new e-bike battery.

Our technicians know every Bosch Powerpack model inside out, so they carry out cell replacements and repairs with precision. In a cell replacement we replace all the cells with new ones. That extends the life of the battery and brings it back up to date with what current cells can do.

By choosing an e-bike battery cell replacement you get the benefit of the latest developments in cell technology, so your battery performs like a current one again. A cell replacement also produces less electronic waste than replacing the whole battery, which makes it the more environmentally conscious choice.

Powerpack on the frame or on the rear rack

The Bosch rear rack battery was supplied in 3 models from the same series. The main difference between them is the capacity. The capacities supplied include the Powerpack 300, the Bosch Powerpack 400 Wh and the Bosch Powerpack 500 Wh, which has the longest range. A 300, a 400 and a 500Wh battery all contain the same number of cells. What Bosch did was use different cells to reach a higher capacity. The Powerpack 500 has 40 cells of about 12.5Wh each, the 400Wh Powerpack has 10Wh cells and the 300 uses cells of about 7.5Wh. Bosch is very flexible about the cell brands it uses, so it does not depend on any one of them. It uses Samsung, LG, Panasonic and Sony.

Like the rear rack version, the Bosch Powerpack frame battery is available in 3 variants: 300Wh, 400Wh and 500Wh. The Powerpack frame batteries are built very differently from the rear rack batteries. In this version the number of cells does differ. The Powerpack 400 and 500Wh use the same number of cells: 40, to be exact, with different capacities per cell to arrive at the total capacity. The Powerpack 300 Frame uses only 30 cells, so its casing is also different from that of the higher-capacity models.

Difference between Powerpack and Powertube

The difference between a Bosch PowerPack and a PowerTube is mainly in how they are mounted and designed. The PowerPack is an external battery, usually fitted on the rear rack or on the frame, so you can see it. The PowerTube is designed to be built into the frame of the bike. That makes it less visible and gives the bike a more streamlined look. Both are reliable batteries that perform well.

Capacity: Both come in several capacities. Because the PowerTube is built into the frame in a space-saving way, it is often designed with a slightly larger capacity: in the table above it goes up to 750Wh, where the PowerPack stops at 500Wh.

How long does a Bosch PowerPack last?

A Bosch PowerPack lasts about 500 full charge cycles on average before it starts to lose capacity. That works out at roughly 4 to 6 years, depending on how you use it and in what conditions. Bear in mind that the lifespan of a Bosch e-bike battery varies a good deal with use, storage and maintenance. There are several things you can do to make the battery last as long as possible, such as avoiding extreme temperatures and storing it partly charged.
