When does your mobility scooter battery need replacing?
You notice it in the distance. You used to get to the supermarket and back with plenty to spare; now you come to a stop halfway. That means the capacity has dropped.
There is another sign we see a lot: the mobility scooter cuts out on a slope or when pulling away, while the gauge still shows bars. Usually one cell group is weaker than the rest. Under load its voltage sags and the controller switches off. On the flat you barely notice it. On a bridge or a driveway you do.
Is the battery completely dead? That does not have to mean it is finished. After too deep a discharge, the electronics in the battery sometimes switch themselves off. We measure that first, before anyone talks about replacing it.
Batteries for mobility scooters
Cell replacement, repair or a new battery: what is the difference?
| Option | What we do | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Cell replacement | New cells in your own casing, with your own connector and electronics | from €365 |
| Repair | We fix one specific fault, such as a charging port or a problem in the electronics | after the intake test, depending on the part |
| New battery | A complete new battery for your model | per model, see the product page |
| Refurbished | A used battery that we have tested and restored. Available for some mobility scooters. | per model |
Which one it will be depends on what we find in the intake test. You get the choice before we do anything.
Can you have a mobility scooter battery tested?
Yes. Every battery that comes in to us gets an intake test first. We measure the voltage of each cell group and, where needed, the capacity that is still in it. Then you have it in black and white how much is left of what the label says.
If you accept none of the proposals, you pay the €95 inspection fee and get the battery back. If you do choose a solution, the €95 is waived.
Lead or lithium: what is in your mobility scooter?
Larger mobility scooters with four wheels often run on two heavy 12-volt lead batteries, of the AGM or gel type. They sit as separate blocks under the seat. We do not re-cell a lead battery like that, but we can convert it to lithium. You then get more capacity in the same compartment, and a battery that is a good deal lighter.
Light and folding mobility scooters usually already have a removable lithium pack of 24 or 36 volts. Think of the battery of a Pride, Cube, Slim or Balance. Not sure what you have? Look at the label. If it says Li-ion or lithium, it is a lithium battery and we first check whether a cell replacement is possible.
Also for electric wheelchairs and tricycles
Folding electric wheelchairs often have a removable lithium battery. We treat it just like a mobility scooter battery. For those, see our batteries for electric wheelchairs.
A tricycle with pedal assistance, such as the Huka Cortes, simply has an e-bike battery. You will find it among our e-bike batteries. Is your model not listed? Email a photo of the label to info@kwsseuren.nl.
How does it work?
- Find your battery by brand or model in the overview above. If it is not listed, email us a photo of the label.
- Register the battery and send it to us. You can also drop it off: the address and opening hours are on our contact page. Outside the Netherlands? Contact us first and we will tell you how to send it.
- We carry out the intake test and email you a proposal with a price.
- Once you agree, the battery goes into the workshop. How long that takes is shown under our current lead time.

Yes. In a cell replacement we replace only the cells. The casing, the connector and the mounting stay yours, so the battery clicks back in the way it came out.
Often it can. A battery that has been discharged too deeply switches itself off to protect itself. In the intake test we see whether the cause is empty cells, a fault in the electronics or worn-out cells.
