Sur-Ron battery
Range of the original Sur Ron battery
The Sur Ron X and the Sur Ron Storm Bee have a range of between 100 and 105 kilometres, while the Sur Ron Light Bee S has a range of 70 kilometres. These figures come from Sur Ron itself. In practice riders may see different results, depending on variables such as the terrain and their riding style.
The standard version has a top speed of 45 kilometres per hour. The off-road version soon reaches a top speed of 75 kilometres per hour.
So the range depends heavily on how fast you ride, but there are plenty of other factors too. The surface you ride on is one of them. Weight matters, and so does the weather.
The average range is roughly 35 to as much as 100 kilometres per charge.
Sur Ron 60V battery
The original Sur Ron battery is built from Panasonic cells. It is a 60V battery that gives you a capacity of 32Ah. The pack is made up of multiple 18650 cells that are specifically intended for charging and discharging this battery.
Sur Ron 72V battery
You can upgrade the Sur Ron with a different, 72V battery. Some of these packs use 21700 cells, which have a higher capacity and deliver more power. For the two to work together you do need a different controller. Commonly used controllers are the BAC 4000 and the BAC 8000. The Nucular 24F controllers are often used as well.
Charging the Sur Ron battery
You charge the battery with the charger that is supplied as standard. The charger has a fan, which stops it getting too hot while charging. The battery is charged at a constant 10A, so it is completely full again in 4 hours at most. It charges from any ordinary household socket.
Sur-Ron battery upgrade
One of the most worthwhile upgrades you can make to your Sur Ron is a better battery. Switch to a battery with a higher capacity and you go further on one charge. Performance changes with a higher capacity too. You can use the full power for longer. The power also drops off less quickly, which means faster acceleration and better performance on climbs.
The top speed depends on the maximum voltage. Bear in mind that as soon as you change the voltage of the battery, you also have to modify or replace the controller.
