The challenge

With a fleet that is in use every day, a battery failure hits the schedule straight away. Replacing everything preventively is expensive and usually unnecessary from a technical point of view. So the question is how you get a grip on the condition of a large stock of batteries without giving them all the same treatment.

The approach

We processed the batteries in three rounds: 16 in January 2025, 49 in August 2025 and 37 in March 2026. In each round the batteries were assessed technically and treated on the basis of the outcome. In the last round batteries were tested, repaired where needed and written off when repair was not justified.

The result

For each round Boat Bike Tours received a practical split: fit for use, repairable or no longer fit for responsible use. Battery service has become part of periodic fleet management, whereas it used to be a reaction to individual faults.

Why this case matters

Fleet service is not the same as replacing cells on a large scale. The value is in the triage: measure first, then intervene only where it is needed.
