Home-grown engineering

The new circuit board was developed entirely by our own engineers, without using any external modules. Its shape and connections are designed so that the board fits the original casing exactly. That means the original Van Raam charger can still be used, with no modifications.

The battery and the bike communicate by IR (infrared). This used to be the weak spot in faulty batteries. Problems with indicators, error codes or the assistance cutting out while riding were often caused by faults in the communication electronics. With our new board, those faults are a thing of the past.

What we can now do with the Van Raam Cube battery:

  • Repair deep discharge

  • Replace faulty electronics (with the new board)

  • Carry out a cell replacement (new cells)

  • Offer refurbished batteries (with warranty)

  • Supply new chargers (4A and 6A)

More than technology: mobility for everyone

Van Raam batteries are often found on adapted bikes such as tandems, duo bikes or tricycles for people who need extra support. If the battery is faulty and cannot be repaired, the whole bike is often no longer usable. New batteries are still supplied, but often at very high prices.

Because we can now replace the electronics as well, a bike like that simply stays in use. That is good for the rider, and also for institutions that use the bike in care or for hire.

Ready for the future

The new circuit boards are now being rolled out to various customers. They have passed all our internal test procedures and are already in use in re-celled batteries.

This technology is also a blueprint for future developments. Every battery type needs its own approach, but with this work behind us, we at KWS Seuren can move faster on other complex battery systems in which communication is the bottleneck.
